Plymouth Rock (Barred Rock)

Plymouth Rocks, especially the Barred variety, are an American dual-purpose breed. Hens lay 200-280 brown eggs per year, weigh 6.5-7.5 lb, and tolerate cold winters well due to a small single comb and dense plumage. Calm temperament, good foragers, slow to mature but long-lived layers (4-5 productive years).
